Dutch vegetable preserves abroad

Vegetables in jars are always handy to have in your pantry. If you don't have fresh vegetables at home, you can always use potted vegetables for a healthy meal. Vegetable preserves are available all year round. This way you are not dependent on the harvest season and you can eat the vegetables you love whenever you want.

You can use the potted vegetables for a meal in Dutch style, with potatoes and a piece of meat. But the vegetables can of course also be used in all kinds of other dishes. At Real Dutch Food you can choose from a wide range of vegetable preserves. Red cabbage, peas with carrots, green beans, you name it. An advantage of vegetables in jars is that they have a long shelf life. So you can easily stock up on multiple types. If you are staying abroad for a long time, it is definitely worth ordering a few jars of vegetables, from Hak for example.

The convenience of vegetables in a jar

The vegetables in jars are easy to prepare. You can heat them up on the stove in a pan. You then pour the entire contents of the pot, the vegetables and the liquid, into the pan. Then heat it up but don't let it boil. Your vegetables will be ready to eat in a matter of minutes. If you want to be able to eat your vegetables even faster, or if you are just in a hurry, you can also heat them in the microwave. Now drain the vegetables and put them in a bowl that is suitable for the microwave. Then, depending on the microwave power, they should be heated for about 30 seconds.

Wednesday Hak day

The most famous Dutch brand of canned vegetable preserves is Hak. In the 1960s they started to preserve fruit and vegetables in the well-known round glass jar. The idea behind this was that the customer could then clearly see what he was buying. So every pot had to look perfect. This has been a great success to this day. The Dutch vegetables are promoted in various advertising campaigns. Thus “Wednesday Hak-day” became a well-known concept. Do you also want to eat jar vegetables abroad on Wednesdays?
