The difference between apple sauce and apple compote

You can buy jars of apple compote or purée. But what is the difference between the two? Apple compote still contains pieces of apple. So it is not a fine paste. Children often like a fine apple sauce without pieces, so an apple compote is not very suitable for them.

The taste of applesauce and mashed potatoes depends on the type of apples the puree or compote is made of. Traditionally, hard and sour goldreinets are common for making apple compote or purée, but it can also be made with other types of apples. Children in particular prefer sweet applesauce.

Making apple sauce

Making applesauce is also sometimes done at home. Making applesauce is also not that difficult. Most of the work is peeling the apples. But then it goes fast. You cook the peeled apples in a small layer of water to a pulp. Here you can add sugar, vanilla and cinnamon to your own taste. Cooking takes about 15 minutes. In between you have to stir the pan from time to time so that it does not burn. Then you can taste if it tastes good, otherwise you can add extra sugar or cinnamon. If you do not like pieces, you can still sieve the sauce after making applesauce. Then you can eat it hot or cold.

Just as tasty (and easy) is ready-made apple sauce from a jar, from Hak for example. Can't find it abroad? Then order online at Real Dutch Food. We ship all over the world.
