Fortune since 1842
Fortuin was founded in 1842 by Willem Hendrik Fortuin in Lemmer, Friesland. Not much later, the pastry shop moved to the city of Dokkum, where the company is still located today. The Frisian company developed over the years into a luxury confectionery and in 1888 the step was taken to an industrial sugar confectionery factory. Even before 1880, DF Peppermint was manufactured, the so-called English peppermint. This was followed by many more classics, including the well-known Fruit Hearts, Ice Cream Bonbons, Salmiak pastilles and the showpiece Wilhelmina peppermint.
